Stephen L. Cawelti graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. He earned the Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles in 2005 and received the Lloyd Tevis Commercial Law “Student of the Year” Award. Mr. Cawelti also received the First Honors Award in Electronic Legal Research and graduated on the Dean’s Honor List. While in law school, Mr. Cawelti was active in student government as Faculty Liaison. He was a law clerk with Parker Stanbury in Los Angeles, prior to being admitted to practice law.
Mr. Cawelti joined The Law Offices of Thomas L. Simpson as an associate attorney in 2007. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Cawelti practiced complex family law at the Law Firm of Fox and Fox in Los Angeles where he successfully argued numerous Motions, Orders to Show Cause and Ex Parte Applications involving all aspects of financial support, child custody and property division.
Mr. Cawelti handles a variety of complex family law and domestic violence cases, including child custody/visitation litigation, child and spousal support actions, including payment enforcement proceedings, as well as contempt of court hearings. His background in psychology and child development uniquely qualify him to address the many stresses that clients and their families undergo during the difficult process of divorce. Mr. Cawelti has acted as the lead attorney on dozens of cases and argued before the Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura County Superior Courts, as well as the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California. Mr. Cawelti’s past-times include musical and equestrian pursuits.
