Duane Kumagai, Attorney at Law. Mr. Kumagai is a commercial litigator with extensive experience in the U.S. District, U.S. Bankruptcy and California Superior Courts. He represents business entities in all major industries, including technology, banking and finance, franchising, manufacturing and distribution, consumer electronics, automotive, construction, real estate, entertainment, apparel, food and restaurants, marketing, international trade and clean energy. Before launching Kumagai Law Group, Mr. Kumagai practiced for 11 years as a litigation and bankruptcy partner with the law firm of Rutter Hobbs & Davidoff, for seven (7) years as the principal of the Law Offices of Duane Kumagai, and as a litigation associate of the law firms of Bronson, Bronson & McKinnon; Dennis, Shafer, Fennelly & Creim; and Jackson & Wikle.
Mr. Kumagai graduated from New York University School of Law (J.D., 1985) and Vassar College (A.B., English, 1981). Before transferring to Vassar, he studied for two years at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and in Madrid.
Before law school, Mr. Kumagai interned for one year in the automotive paints division of Rock Paint Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of paints and chemical coatings in Osaka, Japan.
Mr. Kumagai has served as President of the Century City Bar Association since 2015. He is a member and past Steering Committee member of the California Minority Counsel Program, co-founder of Westside United Professionals. He has volunteered with the Asian Pacific American Law Center, and served on the State Bar of California Legislative Committee. Mr. Kumagai has presented to the Los Angeles County and Wilshire Bar Associations on special issues in commercial and bankruptcy litigation.
