Carla A. Ford is a partner at Scheidemantle Law Group in Pasadena, a boutique firm whose practice includes complex business litigation, commercial contracts and transactions, employment, insurance recovery and counseling, risk management counseling, real estate, intellectual property and trade secrets, mergers and acquisitions, sale-of-goods transactions and advice, products liability defense and counseling, construction defect litigations, toxic tort defense, and class action defense. Ms. Ford’s practice centers on employment counseling and representing businesses in workplace matters and on compliance consulting, with a focus on elder care facilities. A seasoned trial attorney, Ms. Ford was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for 16 years in the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) in Los Angeles where she represented federal agencies in a general civil practice that included employment, immigration, and common law and constitutional torts. Ms. Ford likes the challenge of investigating and trying employment discrimination cases because of the inherent credibility issues. For five years after she left the USAO, Ms. Ford was a senior director with Walmart Stores, Inc. where she led a California-based team of compliance managers as they kept the Fortune One’s 300+ stores in compliance with state and federal environmental laws. In her current practice as a compliance consultant for nursing homes and other businesses, Ms. Ford uses her Walmart experience to honor the memory of her mother who died an Alzheimer’s patient in nursing care. Instead of suing elder care facilities after injury or death of loved ones, Ms. Ford’s mission is to prevent those outcomes by working with nursing homes to show them how, through compliance, they can improve care and yet preserve profitability. Ms. Ford is admitted to practice in California and Georgia. She received her B.A. in English Literature at Boston University and her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
